Anat Baniel

Anat Baniel has over 40 years of remarkable experience with thousands of children with special needs and adults with strokes, injuries, and other limiting conditions. It is through this experience that she developed the Anat Baniel Method® NeuroMovement® method, a scientifically based methodology with practical tools for waking up the brain.

Anat was a close professional associate of Dr. Moshe Feldenkrais for over a decade. She understood that the way to transcend limitations—including those that may seem hopeless—was to communicate with the brain and help it find solutions for the challenges.

As Anat observed the remarkable transformations in her very young and older clients on a daily basis, she continually challenged herself with new questions.

"What is it about what I am doing that generates such miraculous changes in my clients?

What are the conditions that awaken their brains to spontaneously reach breakthroughs, often times dramatic ones, in what minutes before seemed impossible?"

Anat spent years exploring these questions, which led her to define the 9 Essentials and her Method.

NeuroMovement® and the 9-Essentials provide your brain with the information and conditions to thrive, and to powerfully transform limitations into often surprising new possibilities.

Anat Baniel is the creator of Anat Baniel Method® NeuroMovement®. She is a world-renowned teacher, trainer, and best-selling author, with a background in clinical psychology, dance, the sciences, and many years of close study and collaboration with Dr. Moshé Feldenkrais.

Through 45 years of breakthrough outcomes with children and adults, Anat developed her method, which is at the forefront of the brain plasticity revolution. The method accesses the brain and transforms limitations into possibilities in remarkable ways.

Anat is known for her ability to make her knowledge accessible, repeatedly demonstrating the seemingly miraculous while never compromising depth, accuracy, richness, and complexity. She has been training practitioners for 45 years. She initially trained practitioners in the Feldenkrais Method. After her own evolution she began training practitioners in the ABM® NeuroMovement® Method. Anat has worked to develop a highly skilled team of trainers. Students graduating from the ABM®NM® Training Programs are inspired and empowered to become powerful practitioners in their own right.

Anat’s Story

Anat Baniel was born in Israel to a scientist father and a poet and garden architect mother. She has a BA in Psychology and Statistics, and attended graduate school at Tel Aviv University to become a clinical psychologist. She worked in this capacity with the Israeli Army for several years. At the same time, Anat pursued her passion for dance.

Being unsatisfied with the traditional “talk therapy,” Anat to impact the functional well-being of people through movement and communication with the brain. Her search led her to Dr. Moshé Feldenkrais—the founder of the Feldenkrais Method.

After graduating from his training program, Anat worked, traveled, and closely collaborated with Dr. Feldenkrais until his passing. Dr. Feldenkrais was adamant that Anat do the work in her own distinct way, allowing her Method to develop and evolve uniquely and fully.

Anat continued working with high performers such as musicians and dancers, with people suffering from pain or limitations, and with an ever-growing number of children with special needs. This combination of clients gave Anat profound insight into how the brain learns and changes.

Anat Baniel is the author of two highly acclaimed books about this transformational methodology: Move Into Life: NeuroMovement for Lifelong Vitality and Kids Beyond Limits.

Anat has trained hundreds of practitioners in this Method. She collaborates with leading neuroscientists, doctors, and educators including Dr. Michael Merzenich, Dr. Martha Herbert, Dr. Jill Bolte Taylor, Dr. Elizabeth Torres, and others.
